Graph-based Topology Reasoning for Driving Scenes

Understanding the road genome is essential to realize autonomous driving. This highly intelligent problem contains two aspects - the connection relationship of lanes, and the assignment relationship between lanes and traffic elements, where a comprehensive topology reasoning method is vacant. On one hand, previous map learning techniques struggle in deriving lane connectivity with segmentation or laneline paradigms; or prior lane topology-oriented approaches focus on centerline detection and neglect the interaction modeling. On the other hand, the traffic element to lane assignment problem is limited in the image domain, leaving how to construct the correspondence from two views an unexplored challenge. To address these issues, we present TopoNet, the first end-to-end framework capable of abstracting traffic knowledge beyond conventional perception tasks. To capture the driving scene topology, we introduce three key designs: (1) an embedding module to incorporate semantic knowledge from 2D elements into a unified feature space; (2) a curated scene graph neural network to model relationships and enable feature interaction inside the network; (3) instead of transmitting messages arbitrarily, a scene knowledge graph is devised to differentiate prior knowledge from various types of the road genome. We evaluate TopoNet on the challenging scene understanding benchmark, OpenLane-V2, where our approach outperforms all previous works by a great margin on all perceptual and topological metrics. A Deep Learning Model for Coronary Artery Segmentation and Quantitative Stenosis Detection in Angiographic Images

Coronary artery disease (CAD) is a leading cause of cardiovascular-related mortality, and accurate stenosis detection is crucial for effective clinical decision-making. Coronary angiography remains the gold standard for diagnosing CAD, but manual analysis of angiograms is prone to errors and subjectivity. This study aims to develop a deep learning-based approach for the automatic segmentation of coronary arteries from angiographic images and the quantitative detection of stenosis, thereby improving the accuracy and efficiency of CAD diagnosis. We propose a novel deep learning-based method for the automatic segmentation of coronary arteries in angiographic images, coupled with a dynamic cohort method for stenosis detection. The segmentation model combines the MedSAM and VM-UNet architectures to achieve high-performance results. After segmentation, the vascular centerline is extracted, vessel diameter is computed, and the degree of stenosis is measured with high precision, enabling accurate identification of arterial stenosis. On the mixed dataset (including the ARCADE, DCA1, and GH datasets), the model achieved an average IoU of 0.6308, with sensitivity and specificity of 0.9772 and 0.9903, respectively. On the ARCADE dataset, the average IoU was 0.6303, with sensitivity of 0.9832 and specificity of 0.9933. Additionally, the stenosis detection algorithm achieved a true positive rate (TPR) of 0.5867 and a positive predictive value (PPV) of 0.5911, demonstrating the effectiveness of our model in analyzing coronary angiography images. SAM-VMNet offers a promising tool for the automated segmentation and detection of coronary artery stenosis. The model's high accuracy and robustness provide significant clinical value for the early diagnosis and treatment planning of CAD. Deep learning automates Cobb angle measurement compared with multi-expert observers

Scoliosis, a prevalent condition characterized by abnormal spinal curvature leading to deformity, requires precise assessment methods for effective diagnosis and management. The Cobb angle is a widely used scoliosis quantification method that measures the degree of curvature between the tilted vertebrae. Yet, manual measuring of Cobb angles is time-consuming and labor-intensive, fraught with significant interobserver and intraobserver variability. To address these challenges and the lack of interpretability found in certain existing automated methods, we have created fully automated software that not only precisely measures the Cobb angle but also provides clear visualizations of these measurements. This software integrates deep neural network-based spine region detection and segmentation, spine centerline identification, pinpointing the most significantly tilted vertebrae, and direct visualization of Cobb angles on the original images. Upon comparison with the assessments of 7 expert readers, our algorithm exhibited a mean deviation in Cobb angle measurements of 4.17 degrees, notably surpassing the manual approach's average intra-reader discrepancy of 5.16 degrees. The algorithm also achieved intra-class correlation coefficients (ICC) exceeding 0.96 and Pearson correlation coefficients above 0.944, reflecting robust agreement with expert assessments and superior measurement reliability. Through the comprehensive reader study and statistical analysis, we believe this algorithm not only ensures a higher consensus with expert readers but also enhances interpretability and reproducibility during assessments. It holds significant promise for clinical application, potentially aiding physicians in more accurate scoliosis assessment and diagnosis, thereby improving patient care.

LaneSegNet: Map Learning with Lane Segment Perception for Autonomous Driving

A map, as crucial information for downstream applications of an autonomous driving system, is usually represented in lanelines or centerlines. However, existing literature on map learning primarily focuses on either detecting geometry-based lanelines or perceiving topology relationships of centerlines. Both of these methods ignore the intrinsic relationship of lanelines and centerlines, that lanelines bind centerlines. While simply predicting both types of lane in one model is mutually excluded in learning objective, we advocate lane segment as a new representation that seamlessly incorporates both geometry and topology information. Thus, we introduce LaneSegNet, the first end-to-end mapping network generating lane segments to obtain a complete representation of the road structure. Our algorithm features two key modifications. One is a lane attention module to capture pivotal region details within the long-range feature space. Another is an identical initialization strategy for reference points, which enhances the learning of positional priors for lane attention. On the OpenLane-V2 dataset, LaneSegNet outperforms previous counterparts by a substantial gain across three tasks, i.e., map element detection (+4.8 mAP), centerline perception (+6.9 DET_l), and the newly defined one, lane segment perception (+5.6 mAP). All you need is a second look: Towards Tighter Arbitrary shape text detection

Deep learning-based scene text detection methods have progressed substantially over the past years. However, there remain several problems to be solved. Generally, long curve text instances tend to be fragmented because of the limited receptive field size of CNN. Besides, simple representations using rectangle or quadrangle bounding boxes fall short when dealing with more challenging arbitrary-shaped texts. In addition, the scale of text instances varies greatly which leads to the difficulty of accurate prediction through a single segmentation network. To address these problems, we innovatively propose a two-stage segmentation based arbitrary text detector named NASK (Need A Second looK). Specifically, NASK consists of a Text Instance Segmentation network namely TIS (\(1^{st}\) stage), a Text RoI Pooling module and a Fiducial pOint eXpression module termed as FOX (\(2^{nd}\) stage). Firstly, TIS conducts instance segmentation to obtain rectangle text proposals with a proposed Group Spatial and Channel Attention module (GSCA) to augment the feature expression. Then, Text RoI Pooling transforms these rectangles to the fixed size. Finally, FOX is introduced to reconstruct text instances with a more tighter representation using the predicted geometrical attributes including text center line, text line orientation, character scale and character orientation. Experimental results on two public benchmarks including Total-Text and SCUT-CTW1500 have demonstrated that the proposed NASK achieves state-of-the-art results.
